Okay, so, you guys won’t believe the rollercoaster I’ve been on. My best friend, Sarah, she’s getting hitched! Super excited for her, obviously. But then she drops this bomb on me – she wants ME to be one of her bridesmaids. Now, I love Sarah to death, but I’m a dude. Like, a full-on, beard-having, football-watching dude. So, yeah, I was a little thrown.
First thing I did? Hit up the internet, naturally. Typed in “guy bridesmaid” and, let me tell you, the results were a mixed bag. Some people were all for it, talking about this “bridesman” thing. Apparently, it’s becoming more common to have guys stand up on the bride’s side. Cool, I guess. But then there were these other articles, all formal and stuff, talking about etiquette and responsibilities. It was a lot to take in.
After the initial shock wore off, I called up Sarah. We had a good laugh about the whole thing. She explained that she didn’t care about traditional roles, she just wanted her closest friends by her side, and that included me. I gotta say, that made me feel pretty damn special.
So, I’m officially a “bridesman”. We talked about what I’d be doing. Sarah was chill about everything. She told me to just be there for her, help with some planning if I was up for it, and most importantly, have fun. As for the other stuff, she gave me all the key dates early on. I’m talking about engagement party, bridal shower, and, of course, the big day itself. She’s even keeping me in the loop on the bridesmaid dress stuff, which, honestly, is more for my amusement than anything else.
- The Engagement Party: It was a blast. We got together with friends and family to celebrate Sarah and her fiancé, Mark. Good food, good company, and a chance to show my support.
- The Bridal Shower: Okay, this one was a little outside my comfort zone. Lots of pink, lots of girly games. But I hung in there, played along, and even won a prize in one of the games. Go figure.
- The Bachelorette Party: Sarah’s planning something epic, and she’s making sure I’m involved. We’ve been brainstorming ideas, and I think we’ve come up with something that’s both fun and memorable, without being too crazy.
- The Wedding Day: I will be there at her side when she needs me.
Being a “bridesman” is definitely a unique experience. It’s about breaking traditions, supporting your friends, and having a good time. I’m still figuring things out as I go, but I’m honored to be part of Sarah’s special day. And who knows, maybe I’ll even rock a dress. Just kidding… unless?
It turned out to be a great decision. We had a fantastic time throughout the whole process, and I felt incredibly honored to be part of such a special moment in my friend’s life.
I’m learning a lot about weddings, friendship, and, well, myself. It’s been an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
