Okay, so, I got hitched a while back, and one of the things that I spent a ton of time on was figuring out the music for our wedding dinner. I mean, you gotta have the right tunes, right? It sets the whole mood for the evening.
First, I started by just brainstorming. I thought about all the different kinds of music we like, and what kind of vibe we wanted for the dinner. We wanted something classy but not too stuffy, you know? Something that everyone from my grandma to my little cousins could enjoy. I scribbled down a bunch of artists and song ideas on a notepad – a real mixed bag, everything from oldies to some more current stuff.
- Frank Sinatra
- Whitney Houston
- Some jazz standards
- A few pop hits
Then, I dove into the internet, looking for inspiration. I searched for things like “wedding dinner songs,” “classic wedding music,” and “best background music for a party.” I found some pretty good articles and playlists, and added a few more ideas to my list. I noticed that a lot of people recommended jazz and instrumental stuff for the dinner part, which made sense. You want people to be able to chat and enjoy their meal without the music being too overpowering.
I started narrowing it down by listening to a ton of music. I made a few different playlists on my phone, testing out different combinations. I even played some of them while we were having dinner at home, just to see how they felt. My wife helped with this, offering her thoughts. We discussed every song whether it’s suitable for our wedding dinner.
Remembered that one song kept popping up everywhere: “Canon in D” by Johann Pachelbel. Apparently, it’s, like, the ultimate wedding song. But we decided to skip that one for the dinner – it felt a little too formal, and maybe a bit overdone. We also noticed in some playlists saying “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston appears in 484 of those playlists. We considered it seriously.
We also considered the different parts of the dinner. Like, we wanted something a little more upbeat for when people first walked in, and then something a bit more mellow for during the main course. And then maybe pick things up again a little towards the end, when people are starting to get ready to hit the dance floor. Also, we thought about the lyrics. We picked a song called “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra. That’s a romantic song!
Final Touches
Finally, I put together the final playlist. I made sure to mix things up, so there was a little something for everyone. And I double-checked the timing, making sure there was enough music to last the whole dinner. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. The music was perfect, and everyone had a great time. Even my grandma was tapping her foot!
