Okay, so, we were planning our wedding, right? And we wanted something more than just the usual dancing and toasts at the reception. We really wanted our guests to have a blast and, you know, actually remember our wedding as something special. So we started brainstorming about some fun games we could play with everyone.
First off, we decided to do a “Shoe Game”. I had heard about it from somewhere, maybe a friend’s wedding or something. Basically, my husband and I sat back-to-back, each holding one of our own shoes and one of each other’s. Then our friend, who was MCing, started asking these funny questions like, “Who’s the better cook?” or “Who’s more likely to get lost?” We’d raise the shoe of the person who we thought fit the question best. It was hilarious because sometimes we totally agreed on the answer, and other times, not so much! The guests were cracking up, especially when our answers were way off.
Then, we set up a “Ring Toss” game. It was a nod to the whole ring exchange thing in the ceremony. I bought a bunch of those cheapo plastic rings and some bottles online. We set up the bottles on a table and had our guests try to toss the rings onto them. We gave out small prizes, but mostly, it was just for bragging rights. It was really funny watching our friends and family get all competitive over a simple ring toss. Even my grandma was out there, trying to get a ringer!
We also did a “Scavenger Hunt.” It’s a bit more work, but worth it. I printed out these lists of things for people to find around the reception area – a blue napkin, a fork, someone wearing red, you know, stuff like that. We picked one person from each table to participate, and they had to run around and gather the items. It was chaotic and so much fun. People were really getting into it, even the older folks. Our uncle was the big winner, which was surprising since he’s usually so quiet!
Another thing we did, which was a bit more chill, was the “Trivia”. We made up a bunch of questions about us as a couple – where we met, our favorite movie, stuff like that. We put the questions on the table, each guest needs to answer these questions. The one who knew us the best got a prize. It was a nice way for everyone to learn a little more about us, and it sparked some fun conversations among the guests.
All in all, the games were a huge hit. People were laughing, mingling, and just having a great time. It made our wedding reception so much more memorable, not just for us, but for our guests too. I’d definitely recommend adding some games to any wedding reception. It really kicks things up a notch!
Here’s what we used:
- Shoe Game: Just our shoes and a microphone for the MC.
- Ring Toss: Plastic rings and bottles. We decorated the bottles with some ribbons to make them look a bit more festive.
- Scavenger Hunt: Printed lists of items and a designated area for the hunt.
- Trivia: Questions about us and the paper for answering.
How it all went down:
- We started with the Shoe Game right after dinner to get everyone’s attention.
- Then, we let people loose on the Ring Toss and Scavenger Hunt while we mingled and took some photos.
- At the end of the reception, we did the Trivia game to wrap things up.
It was such a fun day, and the games definitely made it even better. If you’re planning a wedding, seriously consider adding some games. You won’t regret it!
