So, my daughter’s getting hitched out west, and I was totally stumped on what to wear. I mean, it’s a Western-themed wedding, which sounds fun, but what does a city mom like me wear to something like that?
First, I started looking around online. All I could find were these super fancy gowns or really out-there cowgirl outfits. Nothing felt like “me,” you know? I wanted to look nice and fit in, but also be comfortable and not look like I was trying too hard.
Then, I decided to call up my daughter and get her take. “Honey,” I said, “what are people going to wear?” She told me it was more about a “Western Chic” vibe than full-on country. Like, think cocktail attire, but with a touch of Western flair. Maybe boots, a bolo tie instead of a regular tie if I want – that kind of thing. No stress, she said.
After that, I started thinking about colors. I read somewhere that the mother of the bride should steer clear of white (don’t want to steal the bride’s thunder!), black (too somber), and red (too flashy). Seemed like good advice. I love a soft blue or a nice, muted green, so I figured those could work. I also wanted to find something that flattered me. I’m not as young as I used to be, but I still want to look good! Maybe a sleeveless dress to show off my arms, or something with a belt to highlight my waist.
Next, I hit the stores. I tried on a bunch of different dresses and suits. Some were way too formal, others were just… not it. I was starting to feel a little discouraged, but then I found this one place that had a whole section of dresses that were just right. They were elegant, but not stuffy, and they had some with subtle Western details, like a little fringe or some turquoise-colored beads.
Finally, I found the dress. It’s a beautiful, flowy, A-line dress in a soft shade of blue. It has some delicate embroidery around the neckline that gives it a touch of that Western feel without being over the top. It’s comfortable, it fits me well, and I feel confident in it. I paired it with some nice brown leather boots and a simple silver necklace with a turquoise pendant. I think it’s going to be perfect.
I tried on the whole outfit for my daughter the other day, and she loved it! She said I looked beautiful and that I totally nailed the “Western Chic” look. What a relief! I’m actually really excited about the wedding now. It’s going to be such a special day, and I’m so happy I found an outfit that makes me feel good and that fits the theme.
So, to all the other moms out there who are stressing about what to wear to a Western-themed wedding, don’t worry! It’s totally doable. Just remember to keep it classy, comfortable, and true to yourself. And don’t be afraid to ask the bride for her input – after all, it’s her big day!
