Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about this whole “personal attendant” versus “bridesmaid” thing for my wedding, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. At first, I was like, “What even is a personal attendant?” I only had the image of the bridesmaids in my mind. I mean, I knew the basic idea – bridesmaids are your squad, they stand by you at the altar, they throw you a killer bachelorette party, and so on. But a personal attendant? That was new to me.
So, I started digging. I read a bunch of stuff online, talked to some friends who’d had them at their weddings, and even chatted with my wedding planner about it. Turns out, a personal attendant is like your behind-the-scenes wedding day superhero. They’re not part of the main bridal party, but they’re there to help YOU, the bride, with whatever you need.
I started thinking about my best friend, Sarah. She’s amazing, super organized, and always has my back. But she’s also a bit shy and not really into the whole big, public display thing. I really wanted her involved in my wedding, but I knew she wouldn’t be comfortable as a bridesmaid. That’s when it hit me – personal attendant would be perfect!
- Bridesmaids, they are a group of girls, stand beside me. They will plan the parties.
- Personal attendant, she is just for me. She can help me deal with a lot of things, like a superhero.
I called Sarah and explained the whole thing. I told her I wanted her to be my personal attendant, that she wouldn’t have to walk down the aisle or give a speech, but that she’d be my right-hand woman throughout the day. She was so relieved! She said she’d been a little worried about the bridesmaid duties and that being a personal attendant sounded much more her speed.
We talked through all the things she could help with – making sure I stayed hydrated, helping me with my dress, keeping track of my phone and other essentials, running interference with any overly enthusiastic guests… basically, just being there to make sure I could relax and enjoy the day without getting bogged down in the details.
Having Sarah as my personal attendant was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding. She was an absolute lifesaver, and it was so great to have her close by throughout the day. It also meant a lot to her to be included in a way that felt comfortable and genuine. At the same time, my bridesmaids are also my best friends, we had a wonderful time together.
So, if you’re on the fence about personal attendants, I say go for it! It’s a great way to involve someone special in your wedding without putting them in the spotlight, and it can be a huge help to you on the big day. Trust me, you won’t regret it. It worked out perfectly for me and my bestie.
