Okay, so my daughter’s getting hitched! It’s super exciting, but also, what do I wear?
I started my search by trying to figure out what kind of vibe I wanted. Did I want to be all traditional and matchy-matchy with the wedding party? Or did I want to do my own thing?
I hit up a few department stores first, like, Dillard’s and Macy’s, just to see what they had.
- Dillard’s: They had some decent stuff, but nothing that really screamed “me.” Lots of classic styles, which is cool, but I wanted something with a little more personality.
- Macy’s: It was a bigger selection, for sure. They had everything from super formal gowns to more casual stuff. I tried on a few things, but still wasn’t quite feeling it.
Then, I started browsing online. I found a bunch of websites that sell mother of the bride dresses. A lot of brands I didn’t really know about.
- I saw one from Adrianna Papell, they have tons of colors, and styles too. I didn’t order anything from them yet, but it’s good to know what I have choices.
- There was also this Banana Republic dress that caught my eye. It was a pleated midi dress, had this cool mock neck and a tie belt. It looked really chic. I added it to my cart but haven’t bought it yet.
After a few days of searching, I started to get a better idea of what I was looking for. I realized I wanted something that was elegant but also comfortable. And maybe a little bit trendy, you know?
I ended up finding a dress that I really liked. It was a floor-length gown, but it was made from this super flowy material, so it didn’t feel too stiff. And it had this one-shoulder detail that I thought was really unique.
The dress was a Proenza Schouler Cora One, and I felt great in it! It was definitely a splurge, but I figured, it’s my daughter’s wedding, I deserve to treat myself, right?
So, that’s my dress story. It took a little bit of searching, but I’m really happy with what I found. Now I just need to find some shoes and accessories, and I’ll be all set!
If any of you other moms out there are looking for dresses, don’t be afraid to try a bunch of different things on. And don’t feel like you have to stick to the traditional styles. It’s your day too, so wear something that makes you feel good!
