Alright, so my daughter’s getting hitched! Time flies, doesn’t it? Anyway, I had to find a dress for the big day. Now, I’m not exactly a fashionista, but I know what I like and what looks good on me. I decided I wanted to go with mauve. It’s a nice, soft color that I figured wouldn’t clash with the wedding colors or steal the spotlight from my daughter, the beautiful bride.
Scouring the Internet
First things first, I hit up the internet. I typed in “mother of the bride dresses mauve” and, oh boy, was I bombarded with options! There were so many styles, from long and flowy to short and sassy. I spent hours scrolling through websites, saving pictures of dresses that caught my eye. I even made a whole Pinterest board dedicated to it. Can you believe it? Me, a Pinterest user! I started adding pins to my board, narrowing down styles and trying to decide what silhouette would be best for me and the theme of the wedding.
Hitting the Stores
After getting a feel for what I liked online, I decided to brave the stores. I dragged my best friend, Mary, along for moral support—and a second opinion, of course. We hit up all the usual suspects: department stores, bridal shops, even a few boutiques. I tried on a ton of dresses. Some were gorgeous but way out of my budget. Others looked great on the hanger but just didn’t do anything for me when I put them on. I even found some that were pretty close to what I wanted but not the perfect mauve color.
Finding “The One”
I was starting to get a little discouraged, but then, in the last store we went to, there it was. Hanging on a rack, almost glowing, was the perfect dress. It was a beautiful, A-line dress with a bit of lace detailing and a lovely, soft mauve color that was just right. I tried it on, and it fit like a glove! It was comfortable, flattering, and I felt amazing in it. Mary agreed that it was “the one”. Also, I bought some understated jewelry just for this wedding. That’s my girl’s big day, you know?
Feeling Great
I ended up wearing that dress to the wedding, and I felt fantastic the whole day. I got so many compliments, and most importantly, I felt confident and comfortable celebrating with my daughter and her new husband. Mission accomplished!
