Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this idea for a mermaid cathedral train wedding dress. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
First off, I started with sketching. Lots and lots of sketching. I wanted to get that perfect mermaid silhouette, you know? The kind that hugs in all the right places and then flares out dramatically. I spent hours just trying to get the proportions right, making sure the transition from the fitted part to the train wasn’t too abrupt.
Finding the Right Fabric
Then came the fabric hunt. Oh boy, was that an adventure! I knew I needed something that would drape nicely for the fitted part, but also have enough body to hold the shape of the cathedral train. I hit up every fabric store in town. Swatches, man, I had swatches coming out of my ears. Finally, I found this gorgeous, heavy silk that felt just right.
Sewing the Dress
- Cutting: Cutting the fabric was nerve-wracking. Measure twice, cut once, right? Well, I measured like ten times.
- Sewing the Body: Getting the bodice to fit just right was a real pain. Pinning, sewing, ripping out seams, repeat. It was a whole thing. I wanted it to be form-fitting but not suffocating. After numerous adjustments, I was finally happy with it.
- Adding the Train: Next up, the train. This is where the “cathedral” part comes in. I wanted it to be long, dramatic, and just stunning. I decided to go with a detachable extended train design. I mean, I needed something grand, right? I used layers of tulle to create the fullness and airiness I was looking for.
- Lace and Details: And then, the fun part—adding the lace appliques. I’d found this beautiful three different kinds of lace. I carefully hand-stitched each piece onto the dress, creating this intricate pattern that flowed from the bodice down onto the train.
After weeks of work, I finally finished it. It was so worth it. I couldn’t stop staring at it. It’s the most beautiful dress, and I hope the bride-to-be will love it.
I did try it on, just for a second, to see how it moved. The way the train flowed behind me was magical. It really does make you feel like a queen.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure in creating a mermaid cathedral train wedding dress. It was a lot of work, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. This is my first time trying something like this, I was kinda nervous. I was pretty happy with the end result.
