Well, honey, you got a big day comin’ up, huh? Your baby girl’s gettin’ hitched! And you gotta find somethin’ to wear. Now, where to shop for mother of the bride dresses? It ain’t as easy as pickin’ out a new apron, that’s for sure. Gotta look nice, but you don’t wanna show up the bride, ya know? She’s the star of this show.
So, you’re thinkin’, “Where do I even start lookin’ for a mother of the bride dress?” Well, I’ll tell ya, there’s a whole heap of places. First thing’s first, don’t wait till the last minute. You ain’t gonna find nothin’ good if you’re rushin’ around like a chicken with its head cut off. Give yourself some time, maybe four, maybe six months before the big day. That way you ain’t stressed and you can get it fitted just right.
Now, some folks like them fancy stores. They got dresses cost more than a month’s groceries! I hear some of these mother of the bride dresses go for over a thousand dollars. Can you believe that? More than a used car! Places like, what’s that name? Dillard’s, they say. And Neiman Marcus. Never been there myself. Too rich for my blood. They say those dresses can be anywhere from 200 to 2,000 dollars! Lord have mercy! But if you got the money, well, go on ahead, honey. I hear there are also bridal salons and other stores that sell dresses from 300 to 2000 dollars. That’s a lot of money for a dress you are going to wear once. But, who am I to say what to do with your money?
Then there are the online stores that have been poppin’ up. I don’t know nothin’ about them, but you can try that, too. They are much cheaper, about 100 to 600 dollars. I don’t trust them myself, but that’s what I hear. The younger generation seems to know more about that. You can ask your daughter to help you out. Or, maybe just call up one of them young’uns to help ya out. I hear they’re cheaper and got plenty of choice. That’s what they tell me, anyway.
Then you got your regular stores, like Macy’s. They got all sorts of things. I hear Macy’s is the place to go if your style is more, you know, “normal.” Not too flashy. Just a nice, simple dress. And you probably don’t have to sell a kidney to buy one there. They are probably not as expensive as the fancy places.
What color should a mother of the bride dress be? Now, don’t go wearin’ white. That’s for the bride. And don’t wear the same color as the bridesmaids unless the bride says it’s okay. I hear blue is a good color for mother of the bride dresses. Like navy blue. Or that light pink, what do they call it? Blush? Yeah, that’s it. Just stay away from bright red, they say. That’s too much. You don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb.
Now, when you’re pickin’ out your dress, think about what looks good on ya. If you got nice arms, maybe show ’em off a little. If you got a tiny waist, maybe wear a belt. If your legs are still lookin’ good, maybe a shorter dress. Just don’t go too crazy. You don’t want somethin’ too skimpy. And don’t get somethin’ with too many sparkly things on it. That just looks tacky in pictures. Keep it simple, that’s what I always say.
- Start lookin’ early, like 4-6 months before.
- Fancy stores are expensive, like 200-2000 dollars, and some can be even higher!
- Online is cheaper, they say. Maybe 100-600 dollars. But I don’t know much about that.
- Macy’s is good for regular folks.
- Blue or blush are good colors.
- Don’t wear white! Or the same as the bridesmaids, unless the bride says so.
- Don’t wear bright red, they say.
- Show off your good parts, but don’t be too skimpy.
- Keep it simple, not too many sparkles.
And honey, don’t forget about your shoes and your purse. You gotta have somethin’ nice to go with your dress. And don’t forget your jewelry. Just a little somethin’, nothin’ too big. You don’t want to look like a Christmas tree.
But most importantly, you just gotta feel good in your dress. It’s a special day, and you want to be comfortable and happy. So, when you are wondering where to shop for mother of the bride dresses, pick a dress you like, that fits you good, and that you can dance in. ‘Cause there’s gonna be dancin’, that’s for sure!
So there you have it. Just a few places to start lookin’. And remember, it ain’t about how much money you spend, it’s about bein’ there for your daughter on her big day. So go out there and have a wonderful time at your daughter’s wedding, honey. You deserve it!
