Okay, so I had this wedding to go to, and guess what? My best friend, the groom, asked me to be his “best man,” except, you know, I’m a woman. We laughed and called it the “Best Woman” gig. First thought? Panic! What do you even wear to stand up there with the guys but, like, as a lady?
I hit up Pinterest, as one does, and started searching for “groomswoman female best man outfit” and “Women groomsmen outfits”. Man, there were so many ideas! I saw everything from sharp, tailored suits to elegant, full-length gowns. Some women were rocking floral ties with colored suits, others were in classic black tuxedos, and some even matched the bridesmaids in flowy dresses. It was a bit overwhelming, but exciting.
Here’s what I did:
-
Talk to the Groom
First thing, I sat down with my friend, the groom. We looked at the wedding colors, the venue, and what the groomsmen were wearing. He was super chill about it and just wanted me to be comfortable and feel like a part of the crew.
-
Consider the Style
I’m not really a dress person, so I leaned more towards a suit. I saw some pictures of women in suits at weddings, like Victoria Beckham and Anna Kendrick, and they looked so classy and cool. I started to imagine myself in something like that.
-
Shop Around
I went to a few stores, tried on a bunch of different styles. It was kind of fun! I ended up finding this amazing navy blue suit. It was tailored, but not too stuffy, and it fit like a dream. I felt powerful and stylish, which was exactly the vibe I was going for.

Accessories
To make it a bit more wedding-appropriate, I decided to pair the suit with a nice, silky blouse instead of a regular button-down. I also found a pair of heels that were comfy enough to stand in for hours and a simple, elegant necklace. Oh, and I got a pocket square that matched the groomsmen’s ties, just to tie it all together.
On the big day, I felt great. I stood up there with my best friend, feeling confident and happy. A lot of people said I looked awesome, and it wasn’t weird at all. It was just a bunch of friends, celebrating love, no matter what we were wearing. It was an amazing experience, and honestly, being a “Best Woman” was the best!
