Okay, so, I got asked to be a groomsman for my buddy’s wedding this fall. Cool, right? Except I had zero clue what to wear. Fall weddings are tricky. It’s not blazing hot like summer, but it’s not freezing cold either. So, I started digging around to figure out what the heck a groomsman should wear to a fall wedding.
First things first, I checked out some online guides. A couple of articles talked about the “top styles for men’s wedding fashion this fall” and “top 20 fall wedding outfits for men in 2024.” Sounds fancy, huh? They kept mentioning a blend of classic and modern styles, which honestly just confused me more.
Then I stumbled upon this one guide that was all about fall wedding suits. That got my attention. They talked about these “classic suits” and how you could go with a “fine wool suit in rich navy or dark burgundy.” I do like navy. And they said something about matching dress shirts in “warm tones like burnt orange or deep shades like a subtle plum.” I’m not sure about orange, but plum, maybe?
I also started noticing a lot of people suggesting jewel tones for fall weddings. They said to pick colors like “fuchsia, sapphire, or emerald” or even colors inspired by the leaves changing, like “autumn orange, mustard yellow, or deep maroon.” Now, that sounds pretty sharp. But then I saw some folks going for more muted looks, like “charcoal or caramel.” That’s more my speed, I think. My girlfriend helped me try on a couple of suits at home. After seeing me in a few, she thought that a deep maroon suit might look a little too much like I’m trying to steal the show. She thinks the caramel color is more low-key and suits me better.
Tuxedos
Of course, there were also a bunch of suggestions for tuxedos. Some articles talked about these “Favourbrook Cotton-Velvet Tuxedo Jacket” and “Boglioli Slim-Fit Satin-Trimmed Wool-Blend” things. They looked slick, but I don’t know, felt a little too over the top for me, especially for my friend’s wedding, which seemed to lean towards being a little more casual.
One thing I did notice was that if the bridesmaids were wearing jewel tones, it would be cool for the groom and groomsmen to wear ties or bowties in matching jewel tones. They also mentioned pocket squares. A little detail, but I guess it makes a difference. I even tried adding a burgundy pocket square to my caramel suit and thought that was a pretty nice touch.
Made My Choice
After a ton of reading and trying stuff on, I finally figured out my outfit. I am going with a classic wool suit in caramel and a crisp white dress shirt. A burgundy tie and a matching pocket square will do the job. I think it’s a good balance of classic and fall-appropriate. It’s not too flashy, but it’s definitely wedding-worthy.
So yeah, that’s my little journey to finding the perfect groomsman outfit for a fall wedding. It was way more involved than I expected, but hey, I learned a lot. And I think I’m gonna look pretty darn good at my buddy’s wedding.
