This groom in wedding dress, you say? Well, I seen a lot in my days, but that’s a new one. Back in my time, things was simpler, you know? A wedding was a wedding. Man wore his best pants, woman wore her best dress. No fuss.
Now, why would a groom wear a dress? Makes no sense to me. Maybe he lost a bet? Or maybe these young folks just like to do things different. Shake things up a bit. Who knows?
Groom’s Job
Groom, he’s the man getting hitched. Used to be called a bridegroom. That means the bride’s man. He’s supposed to take care of his bride, love her, you know. Make sure she’s happy.
And the groom, he’s got things to do. Lots of things. He’s gotta make sure his buddies are there, all dressed up and ready to go. Make sure they got their suits and such. And make sure they know when the shindig starts. He needs to get them to the party, too.
It ain’t all fun and games being a groom. He has to support the bride. That’s the big one, I reckon. He’s gotta be there for her. Hold her hand, tell her she looks pretty. That kind of stuff. Woman likes that, you know. Makes her feel special.
That Garter Thing
Then there’s that garter thing. Now that’s a strange one. Groom goes under the bride’s dress to get her garter. Why? Well, they say it means he’s ready to, you know… be a husband.
Back in the old days, they had this thing, the garter toss, they called it. Been going on for ages, they say. That’s why the groom takes it off, I guess. Some old tradition. Don’t make much sense to me, but folks like their traditions.
- Groom’s gotta be there for his bride.
- Groom’s gotta make sure his friends are ready.
- Groom’s gotta do that garter thing.
- Groom’s gotta keep his bride happy. It’s his big job.
- Groom’s supposed to look at his bride like she hung the moon.
Bad Luck, They Say
And another thing, they say it’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her dress before the wedding. Don’t know why, just bad luck. People take it real serious, too. My old man, bless his soul, he wouldn’t even look at me when I was trying on my dress.
He even took me to get my dress one time. Can you imagine? Drove me all the way to town. Sat outside while I picked it out. Wouldn’t even peek. Said it was bad luck. He believed in that stuff.
But this groom in a wedding dress? That just throws all that out the window, don’t it? If he’s wearing a dress, he’s probably seen the bride’s dress too. Maybe they don’t care about bad luck. Maybe they got their own kind of luck. That new kind of luck that’s not bad.
Weddings These Days
Weddings these days, they’re all different. Not like they used to be. Folks do all kinds of things. Write their own words to say, have their dogs in the wedding, wear all kinds of colors. And now, grooms in wedding dresses, I guess.
Maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe it’s good to change things up. Keep things fresh. Who am I to say? I’m just an old lady. What do I know?
But one thing I do know. A wedding is about two people loving each other. That’s the important part. Doesn’t matter what they wear or what they do. As long as they love each other, that’s all that matters.
So, if a groom wants to wear a dress, let him wear a dress. If a bride wants to wear pants, let her wear pants. As long as they’re happy, that’s all that counts. A happy wedding makes a happy life, and it’s a good life if you can live it right.
This world’s changing fast. Faster than an old lady like me can keep up. But love, that’s one thing that never changes. And that’s a good thing. A real good thing. No matter how you cut it or how you slice it, that’s the best thing.
