Okay, so, I had this thing to do – make a flower thingy for a groom. You know, the little flower they pin on their suit? Called a boutonniere, I think. I’m no florist, but hey, I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m pretty hands-on like that, always trying new stuff.
First off, I went and found some flowers. I didn’t really know what I was looking for, but I remembered someone saying roses are a classic. So, I grabbed a white rose – seemed like a safe bet. I also picked up some smaller flowers, like baby’s breath, just to add a bit of variety. I wanted it to look nice, but not like a whole bouquet on his jacket.

Besides the flowers, I got some green floral tape, some wire, and some ribbon. I watched a couple of videos online, and they all used this stuff. I also grabbed some scissors and a little pin – the kind you use for clothes. Figured that would come in handy.
So, I cut the stem of the rose down to like, an inch or two. I also took off most of the leaves cause I didn’t want them poking the guy. Then, I did the same with the baby’s breath, just cutting little bunches.
This part was a bit tricky. I poked the wire through the base of the rose – the thickest part, you know? Then, I bent the wire down to make a kind of new stem. I wrapped the floral tape around it, from the base of the flower down to the end of the wire. It felt kind of weird, but it seemed to work.
Next, I took those little bunches of baby’s breath and started wrapping them around the wire stem of the rose with more floral tape. I tried to arrange them so they looked all fluffy and filled in the space around the rose.
Once everything was taped together, I wrapped the whole stem in ribbon. I chose a simple white ribbon to match the rose. I tied it off at the bottom, and voila! I had my boutonniere.
Honestly, it was easier than I thought. It took me like, maybe 30 minutes? And it looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself. It wasn’t perfect, but it had that handmade charm, you know? The groom ended up wearing it, and he seemed to like it. He even got some compliments!
So yeah, that’s my story of making a boutonniere. It was a fun little project, and I learned something new. Maybe I’ll try making more of these in the future. Who knows, I might even get good at it!
