Okay, so, I was in charge of figuring out the flowers for my buddy’s wedding, specifically the groom’s and groomsmen’s boutonnieres. The groom, let’s call him Mark, was pretty chill about the whole thing, but I still wanted to nail it. Here’s how I went about it.
Started with the Basics
First off, I did some quick research to get a general idea. Traditionally, it’s a single rose, but I figured we could mix it up a bit. I also learned that the groom’s family usually handles the flowers and some other stuff, but since Mark’s family was all over the place, I offered to take this on.
Figured Out the Budget
Money, right? Always a factor. I chatted with Mark about how much he was cool with spending on these little flower things. We set a budget, which was super helpful for the next steps. It wasn’t a ton, but enough to get something decent.
Picked the Flowers
This was the fun part. I wanted to match the flowers with the wedding’s overall vibe and the season. It was a summer wedding, so I thought about going for something like hyacinths. But then I remembered Mark’s favorite color was blue, and I found these awesome blue delphiniums that I thought would look sharp against their gray suits.
- Considered roses, but they seemed too basic.
- Looked into seasonal flowers.
- Decided on blue delphiniums to match the color theme.
Found a Florist
Now, I’m no florist, so I needed to find someone who actually knew what they were doing. I asked around, got a few recommendations, and visited a couple of local shops. I ended up picking this one florist who really got what I was going for. She was super helpful and didn’t try to upsell me on anything crazy.
Ordered and Arranged
Once I had the florist, I placed the order for the boutonnieres. We discussed the design a bit, keeping it simple but classy. I made sure to order a few extra, just in case. When the wedding day rolled around, I picked up the boutonnieres, and they looked fantastic. Each one was a mini work of art with the blue delphiniums and some greenery.
Delivered on the Day
On the big day, I handed out the boutonnieres to Mark and his groomsmen. They all loved them, and I got a lot of compliments on how good they looked. Even Mark, who’s not really into flowers, thought they were pretty cool. And the bride’s bouquet also include blue delphiniums, it looked like a great match.
So, yeah, that’s how I tackled the whole “flowers for grooms” thing. It was a bit of work, but seeing how happy it made my buddy and how great everything looked made it totally worth it. Plus, I learned a thing or two about flowers, which is always a bonus!
