This year, my oldest granddaughter, she’s gettin’ hitched! She come over the other day, showin’ me all these fancy pictures on her phone. Talkin’ ’bout champagne and black bridesmaid dresses. She says it’s the “in” thing now. Well, back in my day, we just wore whatever mama had sewed up for us. Didn’t matter the color, long as it was clean!
But these champagne bridesmaid dresses, they ain’t half bad, I reckon. Kind of a shimmery, light color. Like that bubbly drink the fancy folks like. Not too bright, not too dull. Just a nice, soft color. My granddaughter, she says it’s real elegant. And with the black, well, that’s always been a classy color, ain’t it?
She showed me all kinds of these dresses. Some long, flowy ones, like them maxi dresses they call ’em. She said the black maxi dresses are also popular. Reminds me of them old-timey movie stars. Then there were some shorter ones, just below the knee, they call those midi dresses. She told me black midi dresses for bridesmaid is also great. Good for dancin’, I suppose. And some had no straps at all! Off the shoulder, they call it. Imagine that! Back in my day, you’d be considered scandalous wearin’ somethin’ like that to a weddin’!

- Long dresses, short dresses, no-strap dresses, they got ’em all!
She says all her friends, the bridesmaids, they’re gonna wear these. Some in champagne, some in black. Says it’ll look real pretty in the pictures. I guess these young folks, they care a lot about pictures. We just had that one fella with the big camera come to the church, snap a few, and that was that.
Now, my granddaughter, she’s a good girl, but she worries too much about these things. I told her, “Honey, it don’t matter what they wear, long as they’re there to see you get married!” But she just laughed and said, “Grandma, it’s important!”
So, they got these champagne and black bridesmaid dresses. And you know what? They do look kinda nice. Different, but nice. I still think a good, solid blue or a nice floral print would
