Okay, so, I’ve been prepping for my daughter’s wedding, and let me tell you, it’s a whole thing. One of the things I had to figure out was what tie to wear. Seems simple, right? Nope! You want to look good, you want to match the vibe of the wedding, and you don’t want to clash with the groomsmen or the groom himself.
First, I started by looking at the wedding colors. My daughter and her fiancé picked out this lovely shade of dusty blue and some soft grey, so I figured I needed something that wouldn’t scream for attention but would still look classy.
I went online, but honestly, it was overwhelming. There were so many options! Solid colors, stripes, patterns… ugh. Then I remembered the advice of my other daught: Keep it simple. So, I started looking at neutral colors, like ivory, champagne, or a light silver. These seemed like a safe bet, and they wouldn’t clash with anything.
Then I thought about the formality of the wedding. It’s not a super formal black-tie affair, but it’s not exactly a backyard BBQ either. It is a semi-formal event, my daughter told me. So, I ruled out the idea of a tuxedo and a bow tie. A nice suit seemed more appropriate.
I asked my daughter about what the groom and groomsmen were wearing. Turns out, they’re going with navy blue suits. Okay, so I didn’t want to match them exactly, but I didn’t want to clash either. I decided a grey suit would work well, and it would also go nicely with the wedding colors.
My Choice
After a lot of hemming and hawing, I finally settled on a beautiful light silver tie with a subtle texture. It’s elegant, it complements the wedding colors, and it won’t compete with the groom’s attire. I also picked out a crisp white shirt and a grey suit that I already owned. I tried everything on, and it looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.
- Find the wedding colors.
- Look for the formality of the wedding.
- Ask about the groom’s attire.
- Decide on your own attire.
The big day is coming up soon, and I’m feeling pretty confident about my outfit. Most importantly, I’m just so happy for my daughter and excited to be a part of her special day.
