Alright, so my daughter’s getting hitched, and yours truly needs to find a dress. Not just any dress, mind you – a mother-of-the-bride dress. And let me tell you, the struggle is real. I wanted something classy, something that says “I’m the mom, but I still got it,” you know?
First thing I did was hit up those fancy bridal shops. You wouldn’t believe the price tags on some of these gowns! I mean, I love my daughter, but I’m not about to take out a second mortgage for a dress I’ll wear once.
Then there was the style issue. Everything was either too frumpy or too, shall we say, “youthful” for me. I’m a mom, not a teenager trying to crash the prom. I needed sleeves, people! It is a big deal to me. Finally, I found a shop called Mon Cheri, the dresses are pretty good.

Tried on a bunch of dresses: It was a montage straight out of a movie. Zipping, unzipping, stepping into this, stepping out of that. Some were okay, some were a hard no. There was this one sparkly number that made me look like a disco ball – yeah, that wasn’t going to work.

Considered the wedding theme: The wedding’s got this elegant, kind of classic vibe, so I needed something that fit that bill. No crazy patterns or anything too out there.
Then I find a dress from Ever-Pretty, but it only has half sleeve. It’s crew neck and A Line, the style is what I am looking for. But the sleeve is a deal breaker. And I tried on this long sleeve dress from Mac Duggal, which is full of crystal and floral details. While the sleeves and length were right, but it just didn’t feel like “me”, and also too heavy.
The Choice
I finally landed on a beautiful long dress, long sleeve as well, and it’s perfect. It’s got just the right amount of detail, nothing too flashy. Most importantly, I feel good in it. And that’s what really matters, right? I found it at this little boutique downtown, a total hidden gem. Who knew?
So, yeah, finding the right dress was a whole journey. But hey, at least I can check that off my list. Now, onto the next wedding planning adventure…
