Well, honey, let me tell you about these burgundy bridesmaid dresses. My granddaughter, she’s gettin’ hitched next spring, and she’s got her heart set on this burgundy color. Says it’s all the rage these days. Burgundy, burgundy, burgundy, all I hear is burgundy! I reckon it’s a fancy word for that dark red, like the color of that old wine your grandpa used to drink. Not my cup of tea, but what do I know about wedding color. If she is happy, I am happy.
She showed me pictures on her phone, these burgundy bridesmaid dresses, all different kinds. Some long, some short, some with, you know, that sparkly stuff on ’em. She wants her girls to look all matchy-matchy, but not exactly the same, you get me? Says it’s more modern that way. It is important to choose a correct dress for a wedding.
These dresses, they ain’t cheap, let me tell you. Back in my day, we just wore our Sunday best, maybe got a new ribbon for our hair if we were lucky. But these young folks, they like to spend money on fancy things. My granddaughter, she says these burgundy bridesmaid dresses are an “investment.” An investment in what, I don’t know! Maybe in lookin’ good in pictures, I suppose.
She asked me what kind of style I liked best. Well, I told her, as long as those girls ain’t showin’ too much skin, I’m happy. Don’t need no wardrobe malfunctions at a wedding, no sir! Some of them dresses were cut way too low for my liking. You gotta keep some things for the imagination, you know what I mean?
She showed me one, she called it a “satin slip” burgundy bridesmaid dress. Looked kinda like a nightgown to me, but what do I know? Another one had all this lace on it. Pretty, I guess, but seemed like it would be itchy. And then there was this one made of velvet, a long one. That one, I actually kinda liked. Looked real classy, like somethin’ you’d see in one of them old movies. But I don’t know how to choose a dress from so many dresses.
We looked at some pictures of dresses that were all different shades of burgundy. Some were brighter, like a cherry red, and some were darker, almost like that old brown shed out back after it rains. My granddaughter, she says the darker ones are more “sophisticated.” Whatever that means.

She’s tryin’ to decide if she wants all the burgundy bridesmaid dresses to be the same shade or if she wants them to be different shades of burgundy, all mix-and-match like. Says it’s a “trend.” Back in my day, we didn’t have trends. We just had what we had!
I told her, “Honey, it’s your wedding, you do what makes you happy.” But secretly, I’m hopin’ she picks somethin’ practical. Somethin’ those girls can wear again, you know? No sense in spendin’ all that money on a dress you’re only gonna wear once. She told me wearing bras is important for those dresses.
She’s been lookin’ at these dresses online, on these fancy websites. I told her she should go down to the store and see them in person. Touch ’em, feel ’em, make sure they’re good quality. But she says it’s easier to shop online. Kids these days and their computers! I still don’t know how to use a computer. But I know the burgundy bridesmaid dress is important for her. So I try to understand that.
Anyway, I told her as long as she’s happy, I’m happy. It’s her big day, not mine. But I do hope those burgundy bridesmaid dresses turn out nice. I want her to look back on her wedding pictures and smile, not cringe at what her bridesmaids were wearing. The burgundy bridesmaid dress is not cheap.
She’s got a lot of decisions to make, that girl. Flowers, cake, music, and now these burgundy bridesmaid dresses. It’s a lot of work, plannin’ a wedding. Makes me tired just thinkin’ about it! But I’m excited for her. She’s found a good man, and that’s all that really matters. The color of the dresses, well, that’s just icing on the cake, ain’t it? I just hope those girls don’t trip over their dresses walkin’ down the aisle! That would be a sight, wouldn’t it? But I think everything will be OK. She is happy, so I am happy. I hope the dresses are as good as she thinks.
She also mentioned that she wants a champagne theme wedding. I don’t know what is a champagne theme, maybe the color of the dress? I don’t know. But that color sounds great to me. I don’t know what is a champagne color, but I know champagne is good. Hope everything will be great.
