Okay, so today I’m diving into the world of bridesmaid scrunchies. Yeah, you heard that right, scrunchies! I got this idea from Pinterest, where I saw tons of people making these cute, custom hair ties as gifts for their bridesmaids. I thought, “Why not? It looks fun and easy!” So, I decided to give it a go and document the whole process.
First things first, I needed supplies. I went online and found a bunch of places selling satin fabric and elastic. I mean, who knew there were so many types of satin? After scrolling for what felt like forever, I picked out a lovely sage green satin – it just screamed “wedding” to me. I also grabbed some basic elastic, nothing fancy there.
Getting Started
Once my fabric and elastic arrived, I got down to business. I cut the satin into long strips. To be honest, I didn’t measure anything precisely. I just eyeballed it, thinking, “This looks about right for a scrunchie.” My cutting wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s a scrunchie, not a tailored suit, right? I cut enough strips to make a good bunch of scrunchies since I have quite a few lovely people on my bridesmaid list.
Sewing Time
Then came the sewing part. I folded each strip in half, right sides together, and stitched along the long edge. I used my sewing machine because I’m all about that efficiency. Hand-sewing would have taken me ages, and ain’t nobody got time for that! After sewing, I turned each tube right side out. This was a bit of a struggle, but I used a safety pin to help pull the fabric through, which worked like a charm.
Adding the Elastic
Next up, I cut the elastic into pieces. Again, I didn’t measure. I just wrapped a piece around my wrist to see how much I’d need for a comfortable fit. I then threaded the elastic through each satin tube. This was a bit fiddly, but I managed. Once the elastic was in, I overlapped the ends and sewed them together securely. I made sure to go over it a few times because the last thing I want is these scrunchies falling apart!
Finishing Touches
Finally, I tucked one end of the satin tube into the other and stitched it closed. This was probably the trickiest part because I had to make sure the seam was neat and tidy. After a few tries, I got the hang of it. And there you have it – a finished scrunchie! I repeated this process for all the strips I had cut earlier.
The Final Result
- Look: They turned out super cute, if I do say so myself. The sage green satin looks really elegant, and they have that lovely homemade touch.
- Feel: The satin is soft and feels great in the hair. They hold well without being too tight. Perfect for a gentle and stylish updo.
- Overall: I’m really pleased with how they turned out. They’re a thoughtful, personalized gift that my bridesmaids can actually use.
It was a fun project, and I’m excited to gift these to my bridesmaids. It’s a small thing, but I think it adds a special touch to the whole wedding experience. Plus, it was way cheaper than buying them pre-made. Win-win! I encourage everyone who has a little spare time to try making one by themselves!
So, that’s my scrunchie-making adventure. It was a bit of trial and error, but totally worth it in the end. Hope you enjoyed this little DIY journey!
