Well, let me tell you, my son’s gettin’ hitched! I gotta find a dress, and I heard teal is a good color. Ain’t never heard of no “teal” before, sounds fancy. But I gotta look good for the big day, you know? This whole wedding thing is a lot of work, I tell ya.
So, this mother of the groom dresses teal thing. I seen some pictures online. Some of them dresses is way too much for an old gal like me. All them sparkles and beads, Lord have mercy! I’d be shinin’ brighter than the disco ball they had down at the community center back in ’85.
I need somethin’ simple, somethin’ that won’t make me look like a Christmas tree. Maybe a nice, plain dress. But it’s gotta be teal, that’s what they say is the in color. Like that greeny-blue color, kinda like the color of that robin’s egg I found in the yard last spring.
I reckon I could use a new dress anyway. My old one, the one I wore to Mildred’s funeral, well, it’s seen better days. It’s got a hole in the armpit where I got caught on the barbed wire fence chasin’ that darn rooster. Don’t ask. And then there is that stain, where l spilled gravy. It was a mess.
Teal dresses for the mother of the groom, that’s what I’m searchin’ for. I went down to that Macy’s store, the one in the big city. Oh, my stars, the prices! Nearly fainted dead away. Who spends that much on a dress you only wear once? Not this old lady, I tell ya! I ain’t made of money. My son told me that is is not a good idea to buy dresses from there.
I saw some dresses that was just… too much. Too much fluff, too many frills. I ain’t no spring chicken, I don’t need all that extra stuff. And some of them was cut so low, I’d be showin’ off more than I should be at my age! Goodness gracious. That ain’t right. I need somethin’ decent and proper.
I need a dress that’s gonna cover my arms, too. These old things ain’t what they used to be. All flabby and whatnot. And it can’t be too tight, neither. Gotta be able to breathe, you know? And eat! There’s gonna be a big ol’ spread at this wedding, and I plan on enjoyin’ it.
- Need a teal dress
- Gotta be comfortable
- No sparkles!
- Can’t be too expensive, my social security check only stretches so far
- Gotta hide these old arms
- Need to be able to eat a full plate of food without bursting the seams
I found one online, on one of them websites. It was a nice mother of the groom dress teal color. Plain, but pretty. Had long sleeves, which is good. And it looked like it had some room in it. Said it was made of some kind of silk. I don’t know about all that. Seems a little much.
This whole mother of the groom teal dress thing is makin’ my head spin. There’s so many choices! Long ones, short ones, ones with lace, ones without. It’s enough to make a person go crazy! And that website has so many options, too many!
My neighbor, Betty, she got married a few years back. Her son did, I mean. She wore a nice dress. It wasn’t teal, though. It was more of a… purplish color. Looked good on her. Maybe I should ask her where she got it. Although I do really want that teal.
I just want to look nice for my son’s wedding. He’s a good boy, he deserves a good wedding. And I want to make him proud. Don’t want to embarrass him with some old, raggedy dress. That’s important. But I also don’t want to look like I’m tryin’ too hard, you know?
This teal dress for mother of the groom search is harder than I thought it would be. Maybe I should just wear my old blue dress. The one I wore to my niece’s graduation. It’s not teal, but it’s a nice color. And it’s comfortable. And I already own it! Save some money.
But then again… it’s my son’s wedding. Maybe I should splurge a little. Get somethin’ new. Somethin’ special. Somethin’… teal. That would be nice, wouldn’t it? A nice teal mother of the groom dress. I deserve it. I will get that dress.
I guess I’ll keep lookin’. Maybe I’ll find somethin’ at that other store. The one downtown. Or maybe I’ll just order that one online. It’s a big decision, pickin’ out a dress for a wedding. Especially when you’re the mother of the groom! It’s a big deal! A real big deal. I just hope I can find one that I love soon. My son’s big day is coming up. I am so happy for him. And this old lady will be wearin’ teal!
