Okay, so, my daughter’s getting hitched this summer, outdoors, and let me tell you, finding the right dress has been a journey. I mean, I want to look good, but also, it’s gonna be hot, and I don’t want to be a sweaty mess. You know what I mean?
Started Simple
First, I hit up the usual department stores. Tried on a bunch of dresses. Some were okay, but nothing really screamed “mother of the bride.” Plus, a lot of them were just too heavy for a summer wedding. I was picturing myself fainting from the heat, and that’s not the look I’m going for.
Online Deep Dive
Then I decided to go down the online rabbit hole, which, let me tell you, is a whole other world. Typed in “summer outdoor wedding dresses” and bam! So many options, it was almost overwhelming. But I started noticing some patterns. A lot of the dresses that looked good for the heat were made of these lighter fabrics like chiffon and linen. I read somewhere that breathable fabrics are key, which makes total sense. Also saw a lot of pastel colors and floral prints, which felt very summer-appropriate. This gave me some good ideas.
The Color Question
One thing I struggled with was the color. I know you’re not supposed to wear white, obviously. Black also seemed a bit too somber for a summer wedding. I saw some articles suggesting sage green, which is apparently the trendy color this year. But it’s not really my style. I ended up considering classic choices like navy or blush. They’re not super exciting, but they are safe and look nice on most people.
I also learned that 2024 is all about bold jewel tones. Think cobalt blue or even bright yellow! I love a good pop of color, but I wasn’t sure if I was brave enough to pull that off. But hey, maybe some of you are!
Finding “The One”
After weeks of searching, I finally found a dress that I think might be “the one.” It’s a beautiful Sachin Babi Jenny Gown, made from this flowy chiffon material. It’s got a bit of a slit, which is a little daring for me, but I think I can rock it. And most importantly, I think I’ll be comfortable in it, even if it’s a scorcher outside.
Accessories and Final Touches
Now that I’ve (hopefully) got the dress sorted, I can start thinking about accessories. I’m thinking some simple jewelry, maybe a nice necklace and earrings. Nothing too flashy, just something to complete the look. And of course, comfortable shoes are a must. I’m not about to be hobbling around all day in heels. No way!
I also have some nice pieces of jewelry that I bought specifically for this wedding. I’ll probably wear those. I figure every time I wear them afterward, I’ll be reminded of the special day.
So, that’s where I’m at in my dress-finding journey. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but I’m feeling pretty good about where I’ve landed. And hey, even if the dress isn’t perfect, it’s really all about celebrating my daughter’s happiness, right? That’s the most important thing.
Wish me luck, everyone! I’ll let you know how it all turns out after the big day.
- Tried department stores – too heavy, not quite right
- Explored online – overwhelming but found some good ideas (light fabrics, summery colors)
- Debated on color – considered trendy sage green but leaned towards classic navy or blush
- Found a potential “winner” – a flowy chiffon dress that feels comfortable and stylish
- Now focusing on accessories and comfy shoes
It’s been a journey, but I’m excited to see it all come together! Any other moms of the bride or groom out there with tips? Share them in the comments!
