Okay, so, I got this thing where I had to pick out a suit for a wedding, not just any wedding, but one where I’m the father of the bride. Big deal, right? You want to look sharp, but not like you’re trying to outdo the groom or anything. It’s a fine line, man.
Finding the right style
First off, I started looking around, you know, just to get an idea of what’s out there. I hit up a few stores, tried on a bunch of different styles. Some were way too flashy, all these crazy patterns and colors. I mean, I like to think I’ve got some style, but that was a bit much, even for me. Then there were the really plain ones, looked like I was going to a funeral or something. Not the vibe I was going for.
Color consideration
The color was another thing. You got your classic black, navy, gray. But then there are these lighter shades, like light blue or even beige. I tried on a light blue one; felt kind of like I was in a boy band or something. Not quite right for a dad at a wedding. I leaned towards a darker color and tried a charcoal gray one on.
Fitting room fun
- Tried on a bunch of suits, different styles, different colors.
- Narrowed it down to a couple of options that I thought looked pretty decent.
- Took some photos in the fitting room, sent them to my wife, got her take.
After I tried on a couple, I took some pics in the fitting room, yeah, the ones with the weird lighting. Sent them to my wife, you know, for a second opinion. She’s got a good eye for this stuff. She liked this one dark gray suit, said it made me look “distinguished”. I kinda liked that.
Making the decision
So, I went with that one. It was a classic style, nothing too crazy, but it had these little details that made it feel special. Like, the buttons were a bit different, and the lining had a cool pattern. Subtle stuff, you know? I got it tailored a bit, just to make sure it fit perfectly. Don’t want to be pulling at my pants or jacket all day.
Accessorizing
Then came the accessories. I picked out a tie that matched the wedding colors, a nice silk one. Found some shoes that were comfortable but still looked formal. And a decent watch, not too flashy, but a nice touch. And some simple but elegant cufflinks. Oh, and I can’t forget about the pocket square – I went with a white linen one.
All in all, it was a bit of a process, but I ended up with a suit that I felt good in. And my daughter thought I looked pretty good, so that’s what matters, right? I’d recommend any other father to check out a similar style in 2024.
