Okay, so, I’ve been thinking a lot about this whole “father of the groom speech” thing. My son’s getting hitched soon, and I gotta say something, right? It’s a big deal. So, I started digging around to figure out what the heck I’m supposed to say.
First, I googled “father of the groom speech examples” to get some ideas. I read through a bunch of articles and example speeches. Some were super cheesy, some were kinda boring, but they gave me a general sense of the direction I should be going in.
- Express how happy and proud I am of my son.
- Share a couple of stories about him.
- Say some nice things about his soon-to-be wife.
- Give them some advice for a happy marriage.
Then I started jotting down some memories about my son. You know, funny things he did as a kid, how he’s grown up, the kind of man he’s become. I wanted to make it personal, not just some generic speech anyone could give. I also thought about his fiancee, what I appreciate about her, and how good they are together.
I wrote a few drafts, each one a little different. I tried to keep it concise because nobody wants to listen to a rambling old man. I also practiced reading it out loud a few times, just to make sure it flowed okay and didn’t sound too awkward. I got some great advice, like, “Hey, don’t forget to thank everyone for coming!” Stuff like that. Also, I really need to remember to thank my daughter and her husband. If not for those two, who knows when this day would have happened.
I’m still tweaking it, but I think I’ve got something pretty good now. It’s heartfelt, it’s a little funny, and it’s definitely from me. Hopefully, it’ll make my son proud and maybe even get a few tears out of the guests. Fingers crossed!
