OK, so, I got this whole thing where I needed to find a dress for my granddaughter’s wedding. She’s a lovely girl, getting married to a real nice young man, and, well, I wanted to look nice, you know? But I’m not exactly a size two anymore, and finding something that fits right and makes you feel good can be a real pain.
First thing I did was hit up eBay. I typed in “plus size grandmother of the bride dresses.” Tons of stuff popped up. There were dresses with sleeves, dresses without, some that were all lacy, and others that were just plain and simple. I even saw a few with capes. It was fun to look, but I didn’t actually buy anything from there. It was way too much, and I needed to narrow it down.
Then I went over to Dillard’s website, ’cause I’ve always had good luck with them. I looked specifically for plus size grandmother of the bride dresses. They had a decent selection, too. Some were similar to what I saw on eBay, but I liked that Dillard’s had a better way to filter things. I could look by color, length, and all that jazz. It made browsing a bit easier.
I spent some time browsing those two sites and I started thinking about what kind of dress I actually wanted. I knew I didn’t want anything too flashy. And I definitely wanted something that would be comfortable to wear all day. I remembered reading somewhere that A-line dresses are good for plus size ladies because they’re flattering and flowy. Ball gowns are pretty, but I didn’t want to feel like I was wearing a giant cupcake. And empire waist dresses, those that cinch right under your bust, can be nice, too.
Then there was the whole color thing. I know you’re not supposed to wear white to a wedding, that’s for the bride, duh. And I used to hear that grandmothers shouldn’t wear black, but I don’t think that’s as big of a deal anymore. I was thinking maybe a nice, deep green or a navy blue. Something like that would be pretty, I thought.
- Started by searching on eBay for “plus size grandmother of the bride dresses.”
- Moved on to Dillard’s website, which had a more organized selection.
- Considered dress styles: A-line, ball gown, empire waist.
- Thought about colors: avoided white, considered dark green or navy blue.
The Result
After all that browsing and thinking, I finally found a dress I liked on Dillard’s website. It was an A-line dress in a beautiful navy blue color. It had three-quarter sleeves, which I liked because I don’t really like showing off my arms these days. And it had just a little bit of lace detailing around the neckline, just enough to make it feel special without being over the top. And it looked comfortable, which is super important. I ordered it in my size, and when it arrived, it fit like a glove! I felt so good in it, and I got so many compliments at the wedding. My granddaughter loved it, and that’s all that really matters. I ended up having a wonderful time, and I felt great doing it, so mission accomplished, I guess!
