So, my best friend asked me to be her bridesmaid, and I was like, “Hell yeah!” But then I thought, “Wait a minute, what does a bridesmaid actually do?” I mean, I’ve been to weddings, but never really paid attention to the bridesmaids beyond how they looked in their dresses. So, I did what any normal person would do – I hit up the internet. And let me tell you, there’s a whole world of bridesmaid duties I never knew existed!
First, I made a list. A big one. It had things like “help with wedding planning,” “attend pre-wedding events,” “give emotional support,” and, of course, “look fabulous on the big day.” I even color-coded it, because that’s just how I roll. And you know, I realized being a bridesmaid is much more than just wearing a pretty dress and standing there.
Then, I started actually helping out. I went with my friend to pick out her wedding dress, which was honestly so much fun. We tried on a million dresses, and she finally found “the one.” I even helped her pick out our bridesmaid dresses, which was a bit trickier, but we managed to find something we all liked and actually looked good in.
- I attended the bridal shower and bachelorette party.
- I helped address invitations, which was way more work than I expected.
- I even practiced my “getting ready” skills for the wedding day, like doing my hair and makeup, so I wouldn’t be a total mess on the actual day.
On the wedding day, I was a nervous wreck! Not for myself, but for my friend. I made sure she stayed calm and hydrated, helped her with her dress and veil, and just generally tried to keep things running smoothly. It was a whirlwind, but also one of the most amazing days ever. I helped with some last minute problem solving, like when the flowers came with the wrong colored ribbon and I helped replace it quickly.
When she finally walked down the aisle, I definitely teared up. It was just so beautiful. And when they said “I do,” I was so incredibly happy for her. I danced, drank, and celebrated like there’s no tomorrow, it was a blast.
The Aftermath
Being a bridesmaid was way more work than I thought it would be, but it was also so worth it. I got to be there for my best friend during one of the most important times in her life, and that’s something I’ll always cherish. Plus, I learned a ton about weddings and event planning, which is actually kind of cool. Would I do it again? Absolutely! But maybe next time, I’ll start that list a little earlier…
