Okay, so, I recently went through the whole wedding planning thing, and let me tell you, deciding on the colors for the groomsmen and bridesmaids was a real head-scratcher. We wanted everything to look nice and coordinated, but not too matchy-matchy, you know?
First, my partner and I sat down and thought about our main wedding colors. We picked out two main colors, which was not too hard. Then came the tricky part – figuring out how to incorporate these colors into the outfits of our wedding party.
We started with the bridesmaids. It seemed easier to pick out their dresses first. We went to a few stores, looked at a bunch of dresses. We even ordered some fabric samples online to see the colors in real life. It is kind of fun, looking at all those pretty dresses and imagining my girls wearing them. Finally, we found the perfect shade that matched one of our main wedding colors. Phew, one down!
Next up, the groomsmen. Now, we didn’t want them to wear the same color suits as the bridesmaids’ dresses. That would have been too much. So, we thought, “How about the accessories?”
We decided to match the groomsmen’s ties and pocket squares to the bridesmaids’ dresses. It seemed like a good way to tie everything together (pun intended!). We also considered their socks, but we wanted to make the primary colors the main focus, also socks are not that noticeable, so it was not a priority.
Finding the right shade of ties was another adventure. We visited a couple of menswear stores, comparing different shades and materials. It was important that the ties not only matched the dresses in color but also looked good with the suits we had in mind. After some searching, we finally found the perfect ties and pocket squares. They were just the right color and had a nice texture that added a bit of sophistication.
One thing we made sure of was that everyone in the wedding party was comfortable with the colors. We showed them the dresses and the ties, got their opinions. We even had a little get-together where everyone tried on their outfits. It was so much fun seeing it all come together!
Our To-Do List

- Order fabric samples for a closer look.
- Decide on the perfect shade for the dresses.
- Consider groomsmen’s accessories to complement the dresses.

In the end, it all worked out beautifully. The bridesmaids looked stunning in their dresses, and the groomsmen looked sharp with their matching ties and pocket squares. The colors complemented each other perfectly, and it all looked cohesive in the photos. It was a bit of work, but seeing our friends and family looking their best and feeling great made it all worthwhile. Plus, it was kind of fun playing stylist for a bit!
If you are planning a wedding, don’t stress too much about the colors. Just pick something you love, and find ways to make it work. It is your day, so make it special!
