Oh, honey, let me tell ya, this here orange mother of the groom dress thing, it’s a big deal! My boy’s gettin’ hitched, and I gotta look decent, ya know? Ain’t gotta be fancy, just, decent. I searched high and low, and I think I’ve found something, but it ain’t easy pickin’ somethin’ out, I’ll tell ya that much. An orange mother of the groom dress is what I’m after.
Now, I ain’t no spring chicken, and I ain’t wearin’ no teeny tiny little thing, no sir. I need somethin’ that covers the jiggly bits, but still makes me feel like I ain’t wearin’ a potato sack. That’s important, too. And orange is a good color, I reckon. Makes me think of sunshine and pumpkins and all them good things.
I seen some dresses online, some is okay, but a lot of ’em, Lord have mercy, they look like somethin’ out of a movie! All them sparkles and beads and whatnot. I ain’t no movie star! I need somethin’ simple, ya know? Just a good old-fashioned mother of the groom dress. And the color orange, it is just right.
They say the mother of the groom, well, she’s important. Big part of the weddin’, they say. So I gotta look the part. But I ain’t tryin’ to outshine the bride, no way. She’s the star of the show. I just wanna blend in, like a, like a… well, like a good mama should, and still look pretty. Is that too much to ask? This orange mother of the groom dress search is wearin’ me out!
The bride’s mother, she’s a sweet thing, but she always looks so put together. I ain’t like that. I’m more of a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal, myself. But for the weddin’, I gotta step it up. So the search for this dress is on, and it’s gotta be orange.
Some folks told me to wear a jacket, a fancy one, over some pants or a skirt. Maybe silk or that linen stuff. Sounds kinda itchy to me, but maybe I’ll give it a try. You never know, I guess. Just gotta find the right thing, somethin’ that says “I’m the groom’s mama, and I’m proud as a peacock,” but also says “I ain’t tryin’ too hard.”
Blues, greens and purples they say that mother of the groom should wear. But I like orange. It’s a happy color. Like a sunrise, or a field of them orange flowers. Maybe I’ll find one with a little bit of that flowery pattern on it, somethin’ subtle, ya know?
- Gotta find a dress that fits.
- Gotta be orange.
- Gotta be somethin’ I can afford, ’cause weddin’s ain’t cheap!
- Gotta look nice, but not too nice.
- Can’t be too flashy.
- An orange mother of the groom dress is hard to find.
The bride, bless her heart, she’s tryin’ to help. She showed me some pictures of dresses, but they was all so… much. Too much for me. I just want somethin’ simple, a simple orange dress. I ain’t askin’ for the moon, am I?
They say the mothers don’t need to match. That’s good, ’cause me and the bride’s mama, we’re like apples and oranges, no offense to her. She’s a nice lady, but we’re different. She could wear whatever she wants, and I gotta wear what makes me feel good. And right now, what would make me feel good is findin’ that darn dress!
This here weddin’, it’s at that fancy place downtown, the one with all the windows. So I gotta look decent, but not like I’m tryin’ to be someone I ain’t. Just gotta be me, in a nice orange dress. Is that so hard?
I reckon I’ll keep lookin’. Maybe I’ll find somethin’ at that store downtown, the one with the nice lady who always helps me. She knows what I like. Or maybe I’ll just order somethin’ online, even though I don’t really trust them computers. But I’m runnin’ outta time, and this orange mother of the groom dress ain’t gonna find itself!
I heard them say, blue, green or purple or silver is good. Oh, my god. I just want my orange dress. That lady from the store, maybe she can help. They say, it needs to suit the place, it needs to be something I can pay for, it needs to look good on me. Oh, this is hard!
Well, wish me luck. This old lady’s goin’ dress huntin’. And it’s gotta be orange, ya hear? It just gotta be. For my boy, and for me. It ain’t just any dress, it’s the mother of the groom dress, and it’s gonna be a good one, I just know it. Just gotta keep lookin’, keep prayin’, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll find that perfect orange dress.
